Year Reflection - 6/14/186/14/2018 This year has been amazing in regards to my art transformation! I had very little inspiration at the beginning of the year, but now I am overflowing with ideas from all of the projects and experiments we did in class in regards to different mediums. I have learned how to paint with oil (which I had no experience with prior), how to make a living sculpture, how to use mediums, and, most importantly, how to properly set up my paintings. All the new materials that I have worked with has been very enlightening, and I can't wait to pursue new projects with my expanded knowledge. I loved learning about the effects of color because it was like science in art which was crazy exciting as I felt like there was a semi-formula involved in creating a beautiful piece! I have begun valuing my color choices which used to be one of my biggest problems in the past because I liked to use all the colors which usually made my works seem chaotic. I have seen the greatest growth in this area as I have actually started looking for color schemes I like and restricting myself to certain colors. I stopped relying on availability of color and started looking for colors that genuinely looked nice on top of each other. I still need to improve on my colors, of course, as I am not quite a master yet, but I am excited to see what is to come. Above all, I think I need to improve on not being lazy when creating art pieces. I often look for what is easy for me when making work, and I do not shoot for the stars in regards to pieces which is definitely something I need to improve upon if I want to create genuinely nice work. I hope to create more oil paintings (to improve upon my skills, maybe even pursue some direct oil painting?), use more mediums (making a CHONKY piece), and work on my sewing skills. Next year, I want to create a piece that's interactive which may involve me using my sculpting skills that I learned this year and/or my big painting skills. I also want to pursue more sculptures, and my attempt at a living sculpture has been very enlightening in regards to how I am very bad at sewing and know absolutely nothing about plants! I might even want to make a bigger version of my hand as I feel like the small version was very difficult to work with and the shape was not what I exactly wanted.

Progress Post #33 - May 25, 20185/28/2018 This week, I finished sewing on the burlap to all of the fingers! I took it home over the weekend to work a little on it and it was super rewarding. I was able to get a lot of it done, and, although some of the fingers are pretty loose, I appreciate what I have so far. It doesn't really look like much with just the burlap on the fingers, but I'm hoping adding it to the wrist and the non-finger hand section will make it look a lot better. I can't wait to start planting! Progress Post #32 - May 18, 20185/28/2018 .This week, I finally finished the armature! There was a bit of a struggle deciding how to put the dirt in the sculpture, but I decided to use burlap with the help of Ms. Mosley. I'm not too great at sewing, so I don't know how that will work out but I am excited to try. Art is all an experience after all. The fingers are a little crunk if I must admit, but they get the basic idea down and that's all that matters. I haven't attached anything as I realized it would be much easier to wrap the burlap and fill it with the moss if they are not connected but rip me when the time comes around that I do need to attach it. Progress Post #31 - May 11, 20185/28/2018 This week, we began work on our big sculpture project. I decided to use chicken wire to make the fingers and hands. Luckily, the wire was the perfect size to make the fingers. I made the sculpture a little small, but I think since I don't have that many plants and there's a limited time to work that the size is adequate enough. Next time, I will definitely make my sculpture larger. The fingers are okay so far; however, it is very difficult to wrap the wires around each other due to how thick and strong the wire is. I think the pliers may be a solution to this issue. So far I have a couple fingers and the wrist. I am hoping on finishing the basic armature by the end of next week then looking into how I can cram the soil and moss into the sculpture.
Progress Post #30 - May 4, 20185/10/2018 This week we discussed our planning for our big end of the year sculpture project! I decided on making a live sculpture out of chicken wire, moss, and plants! I am very excited because I have always wanted to test out something that grows and lives as art. I think it is very interesting for art pieces to change over time. I also decided on my 2D project being a photograph but painting over those photographs! I am excited to see the ways I can overlay my drawings. I am kind of terrified of working with chicken wire as it seems semi-painful, but I am super excited to put in the plants. I hope this all works out as I'm not the greatest at plants!
