Progress Post #10 - November 23, 201711/27/2017 This week was Thanksgiving break, so we didn't have the time to do much in class. We learned about canvas primers and made our very own sheets/plates of the many materials for future reference. I worked on a couple works over break, but nothing too massive.

Progress Post #9 - November 16, 201711/27/2017 This week we learned all about color theory. We focused on Josef Albers and his observations about how different colors affect one another when laid on top or close to each other. We did two different exercises regarding turning three colors into four and four colors into three. I wasn't very good at either, and I thought I had nailed the four colors into three exercise, and then I put it into different lighting and there was a clear difference. I tried so hard, but lost it all. However, I believe this week has taught me a lot about color, and I can't wait to learn more. Progress Post #8 - November 9, 201711/27/2017 This week, I mounted both my Old Master and Self Portrait albeit I had only a 1-inch margin for my old master due to a calculation error. I spent all of both classes mounting and taking photos, but, in terms of my sketchbook, I was able to utilize my time off to create some cool sketches. Furthermore, the Saturday and Sunday yielded some good results in terms of PLAY pages based off of my theme of hands. Progress Post #7 - November 2, 201711/3/2017 This week I finally finished my self portrait! I was able to tone down the white charcoal immensely and added deeper shadows to promote the contrast. I also made the drawing looser in order to emulate Toulouse-Lautrec's style. I erased many smudges and created a faded background like my Old Master's drawing. I am reasonably satisfied with my work, although I do feel that it differs from my Old Master's drawing a bit too much in ways that I can no longer change. On Friday, I began mounting my Old Master's drawing, and I hope to mount both of my works by next Friday. author.jacqueline. she/her. senior. virginia, usa. art v. archives.
