Progress #2: September 28, 20179/28/2017 This week we worked on cutting the paper, gridding, and drawing the contours of our chosen pieces. I finally chose "To Menilmontant from Bruant" as my "old master" drawing because I liked how my practices turned out. I was able to completely grid, cut, and draw out the contour of my drawing this week which I am incredibly excited about! However, sadly, I was unable to take any photos prior to today. I am debating whether or not I should include white chalk in my drawing because, although it would add contrast and make the piece more exciting, it would not ring true with the original drawing. I also worked on the second part of this project by taking photos I am going to consider for the self portrait portion and assembling a sketchbook.

Progress #1: September 21, 20179/21/2017 Today, I researched and narrowed down my choices for my Old Master's project. I am focusing on Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec works because his mark making and messy, loose style appeals to my aesthetic, and I would love to learn how to emulate his artistic genius. I am currently debating between "To Menilmontant from Bruant" and "Yvette Guilbert - Chanson Ancienne" both created in 1898. I used "To Menimontant from Bruant" to test different materials and papers. I am in love with using graphite and white charcoal on tinted paper, and I am definitely considering doing my project with these materials. author.jacqueline. she/her. senior. virginia, usa. art v. archives.
