Progress Post #23 - February 22nd, 20192/22/2019 I'm on a roll. I've done most of the body, and I've gone with painting the messed up parts white because it's the most neutral choice and very easy to do. I need to resolve the hair, but I have no idea how. I think I'm going to give her white hair, but I'm concerned she will look very old. I think the face actually looks nice which is a shocker. I might have over highlighted parts of her body but that is my usual aesthetic so I might just leave it. I still don't know what to do with the background hehe. Maybe some quotes from John Berger's Ways of Seeing?

Progress Post #22 - February 15th, 20192/15/2019 This week, I started painting, and it was an experience. Turns out that unprimed canvas sucks in a lot of paint and it is very hard to get a nice layer going. Also, it's hard to be expressive when my paint runs out every two seconds. I think the skin shading is going nice. I like the color palette I chose, and I think this is going to be a fun project. I definitely made her too small for the unprimed canvas that I cut out, so I am going to need to sew a little bit of it to be smaller. I am not sure what to do for the background yet, so there is that. I also messed up a little and painted in the parts that I was not supposed to paint in. I am debating on whether to outline those areas with blue or fill them in with white. Neither really contribute to my message, but the mistakes look bad. I also am not prepared to paint the face. That is going to be an adventure. I have come up with an idea for a home project. I just need to execute it. I actually have multiple ideas and all of them involve embroidery. I am thinking of embroidering flowers on acne wipes that I use. I also might sew all of my used makeup wipes together with embroidered makeup looks on them in order to make a hood. I think that would be a cool video concept.
So, I actually started working on my project. I am now definitely painting a naked lady on an unprimed canvas. I was thinking of adding a 3D element to the work with flowers that might represent femininity and ideas traditionally associated with women. I think my proportions are not bad so far, which is exciting because I thought that was definitely going to be my problem. I realized I am incapable of drawing feet, even with a reference. I decided on making my work a little surrealist and cutting off parts of the woman's body to represent what society deems as the most important parts of a female: her breasts, her butt, her face, and her stomach. I want to paint her a little chunky and a little figuratively, but I am not sure how the unprimed canvas will react. This week, we gathered our materials for our next project. I am still very unsure of what I want to do. I was thinking wood and painting a naked lady; however, we went to plaza and I ended up not getting anything, so I think wood is out of the picture. I am super into the idea of using unprimed canvas though. I want to work big this time because I have been working small since the beginning of this year, and I want to reach outside of my comfort zone. I want to focus more on the role of women in society for my content because I think it plays a lot into body image and how body image manifests differently in women. I also am really intrigued by the concept of the male gaze. I watched John Berger's Ways of Seeing, and my mind was blown by the prominence of the male gaze in art.
